We purchased two twin/twin bunk beds. After several phone calls to Midwest Log Furniture to ask questions, we placed our order online. After receiving and assembling them, we are very happy with the sturdy construction and the look of the natural white cedar logs. A few general notes. The instructions are very basic--essentially, assemble the beds so they look like this picture. As someone with a good deal of experience assembling furniture and some general consruction experience, I wasn't bothered too much. But, if you are not comfortable whaling away with a rubber mallet to get parts to come together, you might need to ask for help. Regardless, you really need two people to assemble these beds. After assembling the first set of beds, the second went together a bit easier. I found that rotating the parts while pushing them together makes assembly easier (not possible for the upper side rails which just have to be hammered together.)
I ordered TwinXL/TwinXL bunks for my college aged boys. The shipping time frame was supposed to be weeks, but they arrived in about 8 days! They came in 3, easy to handle boxes. The instructions were pretty much useless, so I printed out a clear picture of the twin bunks fully assembled. We started by numbering the logs in the print out then numbering the logs using painters tape. Using a mallet only got us so far, but using ratchet straps, once it was basically assembled, got perfect joins. It took 2 of us, sometimes 3 of us to assemble. We used 10" mattresses that we already had, and the top safety rail is just as tall as the mattress. If you want to use these for kids, you need to use a much thinner mattress, so that the rail can actually hold them in. We ordered the unfinished white cedar, which is a little rough. If it was a problem, we could have sanded them smoother. You can see the draw lines on these. You can tell they were handmade. Very cool. And it's been really humid around here, so they smell awesome too. We're all impressed. I wouldn't hesitate to order more items!
Loved this bunkbed - ordered in natural and the quality for the price is outstanding! Originally requested delivery last week of July but called to see if they could ship earlier and they were able to ship a month early so I was able to set everything up before guests arrive end of July. Very pleased all around with this furniture & customer service!
